Throughout 2020 we have been shaken up in a roller coaster of confusion, pleasant and unpleasant surprises, isolation, growth and dreaming. This year led us to look inside ourselves and our organisation. Along the way, we have welcomed the opportunity to learn how to become more radical and tender when witnessing the emotions which pass through within ourselves, our communities and our systems.
This is our year at a glance: To respond to the Covid-19 crisis, we organized 2 series of online creative sessions supporting our community to reflect, heal and play in this time of crisis. We offered 10 movement workshops and 10 creative writing and painting sessions designed to hold a gentle and reflective space to connect with ourselves and others.
We contributed to an academic paper as part of the SAGE Handbook of Participatory Research and Enquiry (forthcoming) titled: “Holding space for emotions in Participatory Action Research: Reflections from the experiences of a youth organisation exploring PAR through creative practices”. In this paper we had an opportunity to explain our approach to PAR and how we use emotions as a way of deepening our knowledge of ourselves and the world around us.
We designed a research process in partnership with Restless Development called 'Resilient Realities'. For this project we trained 10 co-researchers from around the world to learn how youth organizations and groups have been responding to the covid crisis. Here is our methodology note.
We are exploring how to have more honest and caring communication and feedback loops within our team work and with our partners. We keep innovating and experimenting with ways to hold more embodied and meaningful digital spaces.
