100Voices

2012
100 Voices was a participatory research project that took place in the state of Esmeraldas, Ecuador, between January and August 2012. The project documented stories of how young people engage in the development of their communities across 6 municipalities of Esmeraldas. We were curious to not only understand ‘What does youth participation look like?’, but to simultaneously make visible the obstacles and opportunities facing youth in a pre-dominantly Afro-Ecuadorian region. 100 Voices was an exercise in storytelling, through which we created a space for youth in fishermen communities, rehabilitation centers, and community groups to reflect on and share their perceptions and their lived experiences.
