How do we as individuals and youth-based organisations protect, nourish and create spaces that promote gender diversity and support LGBTQI+ rights?

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS:

How do we as individuals and youth-based organisations protect, nourish and create spaces that promote gender diversity and support LGBTQI+ rights?

Are you a young person age 18 to 30 active in a community group, social movement or civil society organization in Canada?

We are inviting individuals to join a learning series we will be organizing to explore how we are protecting, nourishing and creating spaces to promote gender diversity and support LGBTQI+ rights.

Where: Home based. The participation in the learning series will be remote.

Timeline: Participation in a series of 4 weekly learning sessions on

Tuesdays at 7:00PM-8:30PM Eastern Time (ET): July 14th, 21st, 28th, August 4th.

There is no cost to participate in the learning series.

This learning series will explore the following question: How do we as individuals and youth-based organisations protect, nourish and create spaces that promote gender diversity and support LGBTQI+ rights?

We will be using storytelling-based methods and reflective practices inspired by techniques and principles of participatory action research, a methodology that centers on learning together and through various ways of knowing.. We intend to create a meaningful space for dialogue and reflection among this community of practice.

Recrear is a Canadian organization that works to spark spaces for deep learning at the individual, community and systemic level. Through our participation in ‘Pathways to Empowerment in Gender-based Violence (GBV) Prevention’, a project led by Terram Paccis, we are among 11 international partners observing what pathways to GBV prevention are in place in their countries. Our intention is to bring forward the experiences of youth activists, youth workers and civil society practitioners with GBV prevention in Canada.

We are organizing this learning series to create a space for more critical reflection on GBV prevention. We intend for the learning series to be a meaningful space for gathering and reflection for youth, youth workers and civil society practitioners working at the intersections of youth participation, gender diversity and LGBTQI rights.

Ultimately, the learning series will result in a short narrative piece (either zine, blog post, 3-page highlights) that will be co-created by participants. Our findings from the learning series will also inform the GBV Prevention project to develop practical methodologies for GBV Prevention in youth work. These methodologies will be shared with participants from the learning series.
